Kionon, I have a cop-out answer for you: I take them to the dry-cleaners. If there is leather on the belt, most cleaners won't touch them, in which case, wash them by hand with a mild soap. If it's a spot, use a drug store stain-stick. My cleaner does fine with leather, though.
The canvas or gros-grain belts can be washed in nearly anything, but I send them off. Every 5 years or so, I can absorb the small coast of it without too much pain.
Let's keep it clean... but if you DO have to get foul, at least give it a bit of wit. Also, advertising disguised as comments will be deleted, unless it is clever.
YWP, could you explain your belt cleaning process? ...and while we're on the subject, how do you deal with cleaning/unwrinkling ties?
